I have installed this same setup
in the last 3 or 4 trailers we have had. It makes for
very easy draining of the heater
or if your outside and just want a little hot water.
The fittings are brass except
for the 1/2" to 3/8" bushing, the one pictured is in a
AtWood heater. I did remove
the gas inlet pipe to install the valve. I used a 3/8"
pipe thread gas valve.
You will need a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer Plastic or Nylon
(see important below), a 3/8"
short nipple, 3/8" gas valve , pipe dope or teflon tape
and I install a barbed fitting
so I can attach a short piece of hose to direct the
water away from the trailer
side. You will want to check your heater to get the
correct size fittings, I believe
most will take the above sizes.
Important note DO NOT USE
the brass bushing
as is in the pictures!
The 1/2" to 3/8" bushing must
be plastic or nylon, do not use
any type metal fittings.
Reason, the dislike metals between the
heater and the bushing will
react and bond together making
removal very difficult or impossible
if ever needed. The
Plastic or Nylon fitting can
be found at many farm stores
TSC stores being one, also most
places that sell farm spray
equipment.
I removed the red knob when installing, it's held on by a single
screw
It's a tight fit, but sure beats having to remove the plug each
time to drain
