Latest Ford air inlet tube
for water ingestion problem
on F-53 chassis. I do
not know at this time if the tube stops
the water ingestion problem.
I just learned of the new tube,
bought and installed it. The
part number is XC3Z-9F843-AA
as referenced from TSB 04-24-22
Cost of tube was $15.39
plus tax from local Ford dealer.
I understand if your unit is
under warranty the tube and
install is free at your Ford dealer.
Part number XC3Z-9F843-AA
As installed on my Ford F-53 chassis
As seen from below, Screw clamp to original air filter
canister.
Note split rubber tube at bottom is to let water
drain out.
Took about one hour to install. This may vary
depending
on the placement of other system accessories such
as jack lines,
hydraulic tank and pump.
This short tube has to be removed
from the bottom
of the air filter housing before
installing the new tube.
Our 2000 model motorhome is on the F-53 Ford chassis and had previously
had the early
shroud fix for the water problem. But still after driving
3 to 5 hours in a steady
rain the engine would start to miss because of water ingestion.
My fix until
this new tube came out was to carry an extra air filter element
and change it when
the one installed became water logged. This worked to keep
us going, but a pain to do
beside the road in the rain on a busy highway. It's seldom
we have to drive
in a all day rain, so it may be several months before I can say
if this new tube has helped.
