2" Receiver hitch for Jayco
3310RLS
This idea may work for others with
the rear molder bumper and the rear mounted water tank.
The bike rack was purchased separate
at Camping World.
This is not a step by step how
to build, it just shows how I build this one, maybe you can go from here
and build what is need to work on your unit. Any questions drop me a note.
This receiver is untested, I make
no claims as to it's strength or durability.
This receiver is only for a rack
to carry 2 bikes and is not designed for towing.
If you wish to build one, do so
at your own risk.
The receiver I build is made of
2 pieces of 3/16" X 1 1/4" angle iron and welded to make a 3/16" C-channel
2 1/2" wide. The cross pieces are 3/16" by 1" flat stock and I used
one piece of 3/4" angle iron. The 2" receiver is from and old Reese
hitch I cut down. I made this one out of stock I had on hand. As
near as I can figure total cost of steel less the receiver tube is about
$25, I have seen just the receiver tube for around $20 new. The receiver
is 100% welded together. It is mounted to the trailer using 6 bolts,
no welding to the trailer. When mounted and complete only the receiver
shows at the rear as the water tank shield covers it. The finished receiver
hitch is very solid with no twist or movement.
This shows the 6 mounting
bolts notice 2 bolts through the C-channel these 2 bolts are carriage bolts
as the plywood above has to slide back over the bolt head after mounting,
4 bolts used on side braces
